Land & Food Sovereignty Coordinator
Job Details

Job Description
Responsible for the successful execution of outreach and training activities for the Food and Land Sovereignty division of the Pocasset Pokanoket Land Trust. This role will require strong program management skills and the ability to implement land-based projects in collaboration with farmers, farmworkers, and land stewards. Candidates should present a relational approach and ethic that centers the self-determination and empowerment of land-based communities.

Responsibilities
Outreach, Training, and Resource Development
- Build trusting relationships with farmers through a variety of methods, from phone calls and video calls to on-farm visits.
- Implement outreach processes for connecting potential farmers and land stewards to PPLT supports (education/training, grant support, direct support) as well as federal, state, and local services and funds.
- Conduct research on local food systems, forest stewardship, and climate resilience in the Northeast, and developing community centered resources.
- Identify and record farmers’ resource conservation needs and barriers to accessing federal, state, and regional resources.
- Conduct 1:1s/surveys/questionnaires/listening sessions to identify needs of farmers and land stewards.
- Support outreach to forest stewards in order to build coalition and organize pilot projects.
Project Implementation
- Apply agricultural, forest, and land-use knowledge and skills to novel projects.
- Support farmers and land stewards 1:1 in the planning phase of project development, e.g., identifying vendors, assessing soil quality, creating and analyzing natural resource maps, etc.
- Coach farmers on sustainable, regenerative, and/or agroecological practices and guide integration into landscape management.
- Support funding identification and allocation for identified projects.
- Determine candidate eligibility for USDA programs; knowledge of USDA agencies & their processes (FSA, NRCS RD).
- Design training tools and methods for connecting farmers and land stewards with technical and funding resources.
Operations
- Attend regular team meetings with PPLT team members and communicate regularly with PPLT staff.
- Provide surveys to the research team for data analysis and reporting.
- Collaborate with external partners to meet program and project goals.
- Monitor and track projects and programs utilizing a suite of online platforms including Google Drive and Salesforce, while meeting deadlines.
- Support and develop internal processes to improve organization function and strategy.
- Support website upgrades and recruitment video design.

- B.A. or B.S in land management, agriculture, agroecology, or related field (preferred, but not required).
- Experience (2 years) in working with any of the following communities: American Indian, BIPOC, 2SLGBTQ+, Unhoused People, Newcomers/Migrant/Asylum Seekers, Women, Youth, and/or Beginning Farmers.
- Experience (2 years) in agriculture, land use, and/or land management and with USDA programs.
- Experience (1 year) in community outreach, teaching, and/or training.
- Knowledge and experience with Indigenous world views, ethics, and land use practices.
- Experience in any of the following (preferred, but not required):
- community organizing
- group facilitation
- multi-stakeholder collaboration
- coalition building
- Proficient with MS Office and Google Suite applications
- Proficient with online meeting applications (Zoom, Teams)

Job Description
Conduct research and writing activities for grant application submissions
Responsibilities
Expansion of grant funding and Program Development of PPLT. In this capacity, the employee is expected to work 10 hours per week. Expected tasks would include the following:
- Identify funding opportunities
- Submit grant proposals/applications to appropriate government and foundation sources
- Study and understand the history, structure, objectives, programs, and financial needs of the PPLT
- Research grant opportunities from government and non-government agencies
- Draft grant proposals and supporting documents based on the funding requirements of the organization
- Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals
- Maintain positive relationships with fund providers and other stakeholders
- Maintain records and submit reports related to grant opportunities
Requirements/Qualifications
- B.A. or B.S. in related field
- Proficient with online meeting applications (Zoom, Teams)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- 2-3 years’ experience in grant or proposal writing or editing
- Superior writing, editing, and communication skills
- Experience with Microsoft Suite formatting and template creation

Additionally, this role will require strong program management skills and the ability to implement land-based projects in collaboration with farmers, ranchers, and landowners.
Responsibilities
Agriculture Program Outreach and Training
- Implement and revise outreach process for connecting potential BIPOC farmer and rancher candidates with United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) services and technical assistance.
- Implement and revise outreach process for connecting potential BIPOC farmer and rancher candidates with partner services and technical assistance (NOFA/Mass, Global Village, and Nichols College).
- Support website upgrades and recruitment video design.
- Use research database to find and conduct outreach to potential candidates.
- Identify and record farmers and ranchers’ resource conservation needs and barriers to accessing USDA services.
- Conduct surveys/questionnaires/listening sessions with farmers to identify resource conservation needs and barriers preventing them from accessing support services.
- Determine candidate eligibility for USDA programs.
- Design training tools and methods for connecting farmers with services.
- Conduct 1:1 and group training sessions with farmers/rancher candidates about USDA services.
Agriculture Project Implementation
- Apply agroecological knowledge and practical skills to novel land-based projects.
- Attend regular USDA training sessions on best practices for Climate-Informed Agriculture.
- Support farmers and ranchers in the planning phase of project development, e.g. identifying vendors, assessing soil quality, analyzing resource maps, etc.
- Guide farmers and ranchers in the implementation of Climate-Informed projects.
- Coach farmers on Climate Smart Agriculture practices and guide integration into landscape management.
Operations
- Attend regular team meetings with PPLT team members and partner organizations (NOFA/Mass and Global Village).
- Communicate regularly with research staff.
- Provide surveys to research team for data analysis and reporting.
- Monitor and track projects and programs, while meeting deadlines.
